How to clean paint brushes

Start by scraping off as much paint as possible. If you’ve used water-based paint, all you need to do is soak the brush in warm water for a couple of hours before drying it with a clean cloth. For solvent-based paints, you’ll need to buy a solvent cleaner – add a small amount into a container or jar, and work the brush so the cleaner can get into the bristles. After soaking for around two hours, dry with a clean cloth. 

How to dry paint brushes

After cleaning your paint brushes, you should dry them with a clean cloth or paper towel. After shaking off any excess water, use the cloth to squeeze the bristles and absorb any remaining moisture. Remember to reshape the bristles after drying, and store your paint brushes in a cool and dry place.

How do you soften a paint brush?

If the bristles on your brush have gone hard, it’s likely due to old paint not having been cleaned away properly. But there are several things you can do to soften a paint brush – try soaking the bristles in white vinegar for an hour, which should loosen the head. Warm soapy water is another option, and you could even replace soap with a small amount of fabric softener.
