Deploying BetterUp for Teams in your Enterprise

The BetterUp app for Teams integration is available for free to all Microsoft Teams tenants.

With the BetterUp Teams app, your organization can access science-backed journeys for transformation and growth integrated directly in the flow-of-work. The BetterUp Teams app includes transformational stories from leading luminaries (e.g., Maria Sharapova, Welby Altidor, etc…), personalized insights, and guided practices to help every employee jumpstart their journey toward greater purpose, potential, and performance. The app also offers additional product features to promote collaboration and enhance efficiency. You find more details about the app experience here

You can enable, auto-download, and pre-pin the BetterUp app for Teams for your entire organization via the Microsoft Teams admin center. The installation process takes 5 minutes and may require admin permissions.

There are 3 ways to make the BetterUp Teams available to users in your tenant - these are not mutually exclusive:

  1. Auto-Install the BetterUp App
  2. Pre-pin the BetterUp application in Teams
  3. Configure Microsoft 365 permissions for user discovery & download

Option 1: Auto-Install the BetterUp App

Users don't have to discover and manually add apps or individually request admins for access to an app. To help your organization benefit from the free BetterUp Teams App, you can auto-install the app for users.

  • What this is: Auto-installs the BetterUp app for all users
  • Who must do this: Microsoft Teams Admins.
  • What this does: Reduces effort on behalf of the user to locate the BetterUp app by automatically installing the app to approved users

Note: Tenants must enable the Auto-install approved apps feature as it is disabled by default. To do so, follow these steps:

  1. Sign-in to the Teams admin center and go to Teams apps > Manage apps.
  2. Select Org-wide app settings and enable the Auto install approved apps option.
  3. To enable the BetterUp Teams app, select Manage selected apps and change the setting for BetterUp.
  4. Select Save.

Option 2: Pre-pin the BetterUp application in Teams

  • What this is: The automatic deployment and easy availability of the BetterUp app within all of your users’ Teams application.
  • Who must do this: Microsoft Teams admin.
  • What this does: Pins the BetterUp app to the left side of the Teams desktop and pins the BetterUp messaging extension allowing all users in your organization easy access to BetterUp for Teams.

Microsoft's app setup policies allow admins to pre-pin the BetterUp app for users in their tenant. Teams users will automatically see the BetterUp app pinned to:

  • The app bar, which is the bar on the left side of the Teams desktop client and at the bottom of the Teams mobile clients (iOS and Android).
  • The messaging extensions area at the bottom of the compose message area.

Note: Pre-pinning requires an app setup policy in Teams. In this procedure, you can choose between creating a new policy for all users in your tenant or updating an existing policy, one that already is applied to all users in your tenant.

Pre-pinning the BetterUp app in Teams:

  1. Login to Microsoft Teams admin center as an O365 Admin.
  2. Go to Teams apps > Setup policies.
  3. Either:
  4. If you created a new app setup policy, assign it to all the users in your tenant.

After you edit or assign a policy, it can take a few hours for changes to take effect.

Option 3: Configure Microsoft 365 Permissions For User Discovery & Download

  • What’s required: Sets up permissions to allow Teams users to install 3rd-party applications. (You may have to add BetterUp for Teams to your allow list.)
  • Who does it: Microsoft 365 Administrator.
  • What this does: Gives people access to BetterUp for Teams as an option.

To do this:

  1. Log in to the Microsoft Admin Portal.
  2. Navigate to the Microsoft Teams Admin Center. To do this, from the lefthand navigation pane, go to Admin Centers > Teams. (You may also need to click Show All.)
  3. From the Teams Admin Center left-hand navigation, go to Teams apps > Permission Policies.
  4. Click Org-wide app settings to display the Org-wide app settings pane.
  5. In the Third party apps section, verify that Allow third party or custom apps is on. Then click Save.

Your employees will now be able to discover and download the BetterUp app by following the below steps:

  2. Search for BetterUp.
  3. Click Add
